Will this Seymour Duncan JB pickup fit my guitar?

Fitment depends on your guitar's pickup route and string spacing. This is a Trembucker model, designed for guitars with wider string spacing (typically 49.2mm at the bridge). Ensure your guitar's bridge pickup route can accommodate its dimensions (approx. 4.05 x 2.8 x 1.65 inches). Check the post hole diameter and mounting screw pattern against your current pickup for compatibility.

What is the difference between a Trembucker and a standard humbucker?

The primary difference is string spacing. A Trembucker has pole pieces that are wider spaced than a standard humbucker, aligning better with the strings on guitars with a Floyd Rose tremolo system or wider bridge spacing. This ensures balanced string output and optimal tone. This JB model is specifically offered in Trembucker spacing.

How does the JB pickup sound for Indian music genres?

While designed for Western rock and blues, the JB pickup's clarity, powerful midrange, and hot output can add a unique edge to certain Indian fusion styles. Its ability to push amps and provide articulate solos can complement lead instruments in contemporary Indian music arrangements seeking a modern, aggressive tone.

Can I use this pickup for rhythm playing?

Yes, the JB Model is highly versatile. While known for its searing lead tones, its full low end and upper-midrange bump also provide a thick, crunchy rhythm sound that works well for hard rock and punk. Experimenting with volume pot settings and amplifier gain will help dial in the perfect rhythm tone.

What is the warranty on this Seymour Duncan pickup?

Seymour Duncan offers a 2-year manufacturer warranty on their pickups, covering defects in materials and workmanship. This ensures you receive a high-quality, reliable product. For any issues, please refer to the warranty details provided by Seymour Duncan.

Key Features

The JB Model humbucker is our most popular pickup of all time. Blues, country, fusion, punk, hard rock, grunge, thrash; the JB has always sounded just right, even as new genres emerged around it. The low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed and there’s an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords but translates to a singing, vocal-like quality when you play single notes or solos.
Meanwhile the hot output pushes your amp just that little bit harder for more sustain and harmonics. Use it with a 500k volume pot for great high-end cut, or try a 250k pot to sweeten and soften the tone for smoother styles. It pairs particularly well with the Jazz or ’59 neck pickups, and some players even like to use a JB in the neck position for an extra-fat solo tone.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, the JB Model uses an Alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options like series, parallel and split coil, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. Available in standard humbucker and Trembucker spacing for 6-String, as well as passive mount 7-String options.

Why choose this product

The Iconic JB Sound

For decades, the Seymour Duncan JB has been the go-to humbucker for countless guitarists seeking a versatile, powerful tone. Its unique construction, featuring an Alnico 5 magnet and a specific winding, creates a sound that cuts through any mix. Whether you're playing clean country licks, gritty blues solos, or heavy rock riffs, the JB delivers with clarity and punch. This pickup is hand-built in the USA, ensuring a level of quality and consistency that is hard to match. Imported directly, you receive the genuine article, ready to transform your guitar's voice.

Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip

This pickup is ideal for guitarists playing rock, blues, metal, fusion, or any genre requiring a hot, articulate bridge humbucker. It excels in guitars with brighter tonewoods or those needing a pickup to push a clean amp into overdrive. Skip this if you prefer a very low-output, vintage-voiced pickup or a pickup specifically designed for extremely high-gain metal with scooped mids. For those seeking a more traditional, lower-output sound, consider other Seymour Duncan models.

How to use

Prepare for Installation — Ensure your guitar is unplugged and stable. Identify the bridge pickup slot and remove the old pickup. Note the existing wiring connections (hot, ground, etc.) for reference.
Wire the Pickup — Connect the 4-conductor shielded cable according to your desired wiring scheme (series, parallel, or split-coil). Refer to Seymour Duncan's wiring diagrams for specific configurations and potentiometer recommendations (500k recommended).
Mount and Test — Secure the pickup in the bridge route using the provided mounting hardware. Adjust pickup height for optimal tone and output. Plug in your guitar and test all pickup selections and controls.
