What is the difference between celluloid and Delrin guitar picks?

Celluloid picks offer a warm, bright tone and a smooth feel, mimicking traditional tortoiseshell. Delrin picks, like Jim Dunlop Tortex, are known for their superior durability, consistency, and a brighter, snappier attack. Tortex also features a unique matte grip that enhances control, making them ideal for players who need precision and longevity.

Which pick thickness should a beginner choose?

Beginners often start with a thin-to-medium gauge (around 0.46–0.73mm) because it flexes easily for rhythm strumming, then move to heavier picks for lead work and single-note precision as technique develops. These 1.14mm picks are on the heavier side, best suited for players focusing on lead lines or a strong attack.

Are Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII picks good for Indian humidity?

Yes, the Delrin material and matte grip of Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII picks are generally well-suited for Indian humidity. The material is durable and less prone to warping than celluloid, while the matte surface provides a secure grip that resists slippage, even in humid conditions.

What is the best plectrum for lead guitar?

For lead guitar, a heavier gauge pick (typically 1.0mm and above) with a precise tip is often preferred. The Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII 1.14mm pick fits this description, offering a bright attack, excellent articulation, and the speed needed for fast passages and solos.

Can I use Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII picks daily?

Absolutely. The durable Delrin construction of Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII picks means they are designed for frequent and consistent use. The 72-pack ensures you have a plentiful supply for daily practice and performance without worrying about running out quickly.

What is the difference between Tortex and Jazz III picks?

Tortex picks are known for their durability, matte grip, and bright attack, originally designed as a replacement for tortoiseshell. Jazz III picks are smaller, often made of Ultex or Tortex, and feature a precision tip for speed and accuracy. The Tortex TIII combines the Tortex feel with the Jazz III tip for enhanced performance.

How to choose plectrum gauge?

Plectrum gauge affects tone and playing style. Thinner picks (under 0.70mm) are flexible for strumming, medium (0.70-0.90mm) offer a balance, and heavy picks (1.0mm+) like these 1.14mm Tortex TIII provide a strong attack and precision for lead playing and single notes.

Why choose this product

The Tortex Legacy: Tone, Durability, and Grip

Since 1981, Jim Dunlop Tortex picks have been the benchmark for guitarists worldwide. Developed to mimic tortoiseshell but surpassing it in consistency and durability, Tortex picks are made from Delrin with a special treatment process. This process creates a unique matte surface for superior grip and an aggressive attack, while the material itself offers exceptional memory and longevity. The TIII variant specifically combines this classic Tortex feel with the speed and precision of a Jazz III tip, making it a favorite for lead players. Imported directly from authorized US retailers, these picks ensure you receive the authentic product with all customs duties and GST pre-paid.

Who Should Choose These Picks & Who Might Look Elsewhere

These 1.14mm Tortex TIII picks are ideal for guitarists who play lead guitar, solos, or require a precise, bright attack. They are perfect for rock, blues, and metal genres where articulation and speed are key. The heavy gauge and matte grip also suit players who tend to grip their picks tightly or play in humid environments. Players who prefer a warmer, mellower tone or a very flexible pick for rhythm strumming might find these too stiff or bright. In such cases, exploring lighter gauge Tortex picks (like .73mm or .88mm) or different materials like celluloid might be more suitable.

How to use

Select Your Pick — Choose a Jim Dunlop Tortex TIII 1.14mm pick from the 72-pack. This heavy gauge is ideal for lead playing, offering a bright attack and precise control.
Grip Securely — Hold the pick between your thumb and index finger. The matte surface provides enhanced grip, ensuring stability even during intense playing sessions.
Strum or Pick — Use the pick to strum strings for rhythm or strike individual strings for melodies and solos. The 1.14mm thickness provides a strong attack and clear articulation.
Store Properly — Keep unused picks in their original packaging or a pick case to protect them from dust and extreme temperatures, ensuring their longevity.
