• Secure the Honing Steel — Hold the handle firmly with one hand, ensuring the tip of the steel is placed on a stable surface like a cutting board or countertop to prevent slipping.
• Align the Knife Blade — Place the heel of your knife blade against the top of the honing steel at a slight angle (about 15-20 degrees). Ensure the entire blade length will contact the steel.
• Draw the Blade Down — With light, consistent pressure, draw the knife blade down the steel from heel to tip in a smooth, sweeping motion. Repeat on the other side of the steel, alternating blades.
• Repeat and Clean — Repeat the drawing motion 5-10 times per side. Wipe the honing steel clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly after use to prevent rust.
