How do I use the SVBONY SV137 2x Barlow Lens with my telescope?

To use the SVBONY SV137 2x Barlow Lens, simply insert it between your telescope's focuser and any standard 1.25-inch eyepiece. This instantly doubles the magnification provided by that eyepiece, allowing for more detailed views of celestial objects. Ensure the eyepiece is securely seated in the Barlow's brass compression ring.

Will this Barlow lens fit my telescope?

The SVBONY SV137 Barlow Lens features a standard 1.25-inch (31.75mm) barrel diameter, making it compatible with most astronomical telescopes that accept this size eyepiece. Always verify your telescope's focuser size to ensure compatibility. It also includes a male T-thread for attaching DSLR cameras.

What is the benefit of a fully multi-coated lens?

Fully multi-coated lenses, like those on the SVBONY SV137, have multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces. This significantly increases light transmission (up to 97%), reduces internal reflections, and enhances image brightness, contrast, and sharpness, providing a superior viewing experience.

Can I use this Barlow lens for astrophotography?

Yes, the SVBONY SV137 Barlow Lens is well-suited for astrophotography. It features a male T-thread on its back, allowing you to directly attach a DSLR camera body. This setup effectively doubles the focal length of your telescope, enabling you to capture detailed images of planets and the moon.

How does a Barlow lens affect eye relief?

A significant advantage of using a Barlow lens is that it doubles the magnification without negatively affecting the eye relief of the eyepiece. This means you can achieve higher power views while maintaining comfortable viewing distance from the eyepiece lens, which is particularly beneficial when using eyepieces with naturally short eye relief.

How to choose a telescope eyepiece in India?

When choosing a telescope eyepiece in India, consider the barrel size (1.25" or 2") to match your telescope's focuser, and the focal length (mm) to achieve desired magnification. For detailed views, a Barlow lens like the SVBONY SV137 can double magnification. Look for fully multi-coated optics for brighter, sharper images, and consider eyepieces with good eye relief if you wear spectacles. Ensure all customs duties and GST are included in the final price.

What are the side effects of using a Barlow lens?

Barlow lenses themselves do not have direct side effects on the user. However, using a Barlow lens significantly increases magnification, which can make atmospheric turbulence more apparent, leading to a 'shaky' image during poor seeing conditions. Also, very high magnifications can narrow the field of view and reduce eye relief, making extended viewing less comfortable if the eyepiece isn't suited for it.

About this item

The SVBONY SV137 2x Barlow Lens is an essential accessory for any 1.25-inch telescope, effectively doubling the magnification of your existing eyepieces. Its fully multi-coated optics ensure high light transmission (up to 97%), delivering clear, bright, and sharp images ideal for detailed observation of celestial objects. This lens is designed for ease of use and durability, making it a valuable addition for both amateur and experienced astronomers in India.

Engineered with precision, the SV137 features a robust aluminum body and a blackened lens edge for enhanced contrast. A key benefit is the internal brass compression ring, which securely holds your eyepiece without scratching its barrel, preserving the condition of your valuable accessories. Furthermore, the integrated male T-thread on the back allows for direct attachment of DSLR cameras and other T-thread compatible equipment, opening up possibilities for astrophotography.

While this accessory is purely optical and requires no special voltage, storing it in a dry environment is recommended to prevent lens fungus, especially in India's humid climate. All customs duties and GST are included in the price, and your order is shipped via ExpressBox for reliable delivery across India within 3-4 days.

Why choose this product

Enhanced Viewing Clarity and Versatility

The SVBONY SV137 Barlow Lens offers a significant upgrade for your telescope. Its 2x magnification power effectively doubles the reach of your existing 1.25-inch eyepieces, allowing for more detailed observation of lunar craters, planetary features, and star clusters. The fully multi-coated optics minimize reflections and maximize light transmission, ensuring bright, crisp images even at higher magnifications. This versatility means you can achieve a wider range of viewing powers without needing to purchase numerous additional eyepieces. The integrated T-thread also makes it a gateway to astrophotography, enabling you to capture images of the cosmos with your DSLR camera.

Ideal for Indian Skies, Not for Beginners Seeking Wide Fields

This Barlow lens is excellent for detailed observation of planets and the moon, especially for users in India who often face light pollution and require higher magnifications. However, it's not designed for wide-field deep-sky viewing; using it with very short focal length eyepieces might result in a narrow field of view and reduced eye relief. If you primarily observe nebulae or galaxies, consider eyepieces with wider native fields of view or longer focal lengths instead of relying solely on a Barlow for magnification.

How to use

Attach to Telescope — Remove the dust cap from the Barlow lens's 1.25-inch barrel. Insert this barrel firmly into your telescope's focuser or diagonal.
Insert Eyepiece — Loosen the brass compression ring screw on the Barlow lens. Slide your desired 1.25-inch telescope eyepiece into the Barlow's opening until it is seated securely.
Focus and Observe — Tighten the brass compression ring screw to hold the eyepiece in place. Look through the eyepiece and adjust your telescope's focuser until the image is sharp. You are now viewing at double the magnification.
Attach Camera (Optional) — For astrophotography, remove the eyepiece. Screw your DSLR camera with a T-ring adapter onto the male T-thread located on the back of the Barlow lens.
