What can this SHARPAL diamond sharpening stone crimp?

This SHARPAL 163N stone is for sharpening knives and tools, not crimping. It features dual grits: 220 for edge repair and 600 for refinement, ideal for kitchen knives, pocket knives, and chisels.

Is a diamond sharpening stone better than oil or water stones?

Diamond stones cut faster, work dry (no soaking or oil needed), and stay flat, requiring less maintenance than traditional oil or water stones. They are also more durable and less prone to wear. For very soft steels or ultra-fine polishing, water stones might offer a gentler alternative.

Can I use the SHARPAL 163N stone daily?

Yes, the 600 grit side is suitable for daily touch-ups to maintain a sharp edge on your knives. The 220 grit side is for more significant repairs or reprofiling. Regular light honing with the fine grit keeps blades in optimal condition.

What is the best grit for sharpening kitchen knives?

For general kitchen knives, a combination like 220/600 grit is excellent. The 220 grit repairs chips or dull edges, while the 600 grit refines the edge to a sharp, functional state. For razor-sharp finishing, a finer grit stone (1000+) or a strop would be used afterward.

Does the SHARPAL 163N stone need oil or water?

No, this diamond sharpening stone is designed to work dry. This eliminates the mess and preparation time associated with oil or water stones, making the sharpening process faster and more convenient.

How long does the SHARPAL 163N stone last?

With proper care, such as occasional cleaning and avoiding dropping, this diamond stone is very durable and should last for many years of regular use. Its monocrystalline diamond surface is resistant to wear and does not require flattening.

Why choose this product

Superior Sharpening Technology

The SHARPAL 163N utilizes advanced monocrystalline diamond, known for its aggressive cutting action and durability on even the hardest steel alloys. Unlike traditional whetstones that require soaking and can wear unevenly, this diamond stone works dry, stays flat, and maintains its abrasive surface over time. This means faster sharpening, less mess, and consistent results every time. The MirrorFlat precision surface ensures your blade contacts the stone evenly, promoting perfect edge geometry and reducing the risk of creating a convex or uneven bevel. It's engineered for longevity and performance, making it a reliable tool for maintaining your knives and tools.

Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip It

This stone is ideal for home cooks, chefs, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone who values sharp tools and a low-maintenance sharpening solution. It's perfect for quickly restoring edges on kitchen knives, pocket knives, chisels, and other blades. If you prefer a traditional water stone feel or require extremely fine polishing grits beyond 600, consider a multi-stage water stone system. Those needing to sharpen very soft, non-steel blades might find diamond too aggressive; a ceramic or fine Arkansas stone could be a gentler alternative.

How to use

Prepare the Stone — Place the SHARPAL 163N stone on its non-slip base or in the storage case with the base pad. Ensure the desired grit side (220 for repair, 600 for refinement) is facing up. No soaking or oil is required.
Sharpen the Blade — Hold the knife at the desired angle (use the included guide for 14°, 17°, 20°, or 25°) and draw the blade edge across the diamond surface. Alternate strokes on each side of the blade, applying moderate pressure.
Refine the Edge — After using the 220 grit for repairs, flip the stone to the 600 grit side. Continue sharpening with lighter pressure to refine the edge to a clean, functional sharpness suitable for everyday use.
Clean and Store — Wipe the stone and blade clean with a dry cloth to remove any metal particles. Store the stone in its protective case to keep the surface flat and clean for future use.
