What is the difference between pin-type and pinless moisture meters?

Pin-type meters, like this RDINSCOS model, press two metal probes into the material to measure electrical resistance for precise spot readings. Pinless meters use a sensor pad to scan below the surface without leaving holes. Pin models are best for deep, localized checks in wood, drywall, and concrete, while pinless are for quick, non-marking surveys of walls and finished surfaces.

Can this RDINSCOS meter be used on both wood and walls?

Yes, this RDINSCOS moisture meter is designed for multiple materials. It features specific modes for softwood (5.7%-56.1%) and hardwood (3.9%-35.3%), as well as for drywall and concrete. Ensure you select the appropriate mode for the material you are testing to achieve the most accurate results.

How accurate are the moisture readings?

The RDINSCOS meter provides accurate readings based on electrical resistance. It features customizable settings for softwood and hardwood densities and includes a self-check function on the protective cap for calibration. For best results, insert pins deeply and ensure full contact with the material.

How do I calibrate the RDINSCOS moisture meter?

In 'PACKING' mode, a reading between 21.3% and 22.3% is normal. If outside this range, press and hold 'HOLD' until 'CRL' appears, then insert probes into the calibration holes on the back of the probe cover. Regular calibration ensures reliable measurements.

What is the moisture range for wood?

The RDINSCOS moisture meter has a broad range of 5.7% to 56.1% for Soft Wood and 3.9% to 35.3% for Hard Wood. This allows for detailed assessment of moisture content in various timber types, crucial for woodworking and construction.

Does this moisture meter come with a warranty?

This RDINSCOS Moisture Meter is covered by the USA manufacturer's warranty. CrowCrowCrow provides a 14-Day Smile Guarantee for any wrong or damaged items received. Please contact our customer support for any warranty claims or issues.

Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip It

Ideal for homeowners, contractors, woodworkers, and inspectors needing to identify moisture in building materials and wood. Excellent for checking walls, floors, and timber before painting, sealing, or construction. Skip if you require a meter specifically for soil moisture or grain testing, as this unit is calibrated for wood, drywall, and concrete. Also, avoid if you need non-invasive scanning; this is a pin-type meter that leaves small probe marks.

How to use

Select Material Mode — Choose the correct mode (Softwood, Hardwood, Drywall, Concrete) on the RDINSCOS meter that matches the material you intend to test for accurate readings.
Insert Pins & Measure — Gently but firmly insert the stainless steel pins deep into the material. Ensure full contact and avoid shaking the device during measurement for precise results.
Read & Record — Observe the moisture content percentage on the clear LCD display. Use the 'HOLD' function to freeze the reading for easy recording, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
Calibrate Regularly — Perform a self-check using the probe cap before each use. For critical applications, manual calibration can be done by holding 'HOLD' until 'CRL' appears and inserting probes into calibration holes.
