How do I choose between a 33-inch and 34-inch softball catcher's mitt?

Sizing in softball catcher mitts refers to the circumference around the outer edge. A 33-inch mitt provides faster ball transfer and lighter handling for youth or intermediate players handling standard 11-inch or 12-inch balls. A 34-inch mitt offers maximum catching surface area and target visibility, making it the preferred choice for high school, collegiate, and adult fastpitch catchers catching high-velocity pitching.

Can a baseball catcher's mitt be used for fastpitch softball?

Baseball catcher's mitts feature a smaller, shallower pocket designed for a 9-inch baseball, which makes cleanly catching and pocketing a larger 11-inch or 12-inch softball difficult and prone to pop-outs. Purpose-built softball catcher mitts feature wider openings, deeper pockets, and custom web patterns engineered specifically for the diameter of softballs.
