What surfaces can this POR-15 fuel tank sealer be applied to?

This POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer is specifically formulated for application inside metal fuel tanks only. It adheres best to clean, rust-free, and properly prepared metal surfaces. It is not suitable for plastic or rubber tanks.

Do I need to sand before or after applying POR-15 fuel tank sealer?

Yes, preparation is key. You must remove all rust and scale from the metal tank before applying the sealer. Sanding may be required to ensure a clean, bare metal surface for optimal adhesion. The sealer itself is not typically sanded after application; it cures to a hard, non-porous finish.

How many coats and what is the recoat window for POR-15 fuel tank sealer?

Typically, one thorough coating is sufficient for POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer. After preparing the tank, pour the sealer in and rotate to coat all internal surfaces. Drain excess and allow it to cure fully, which usually takes 24-72 hours depending on ambient temperature and humidity. No recoat window is applicable as it's a single-application process.

Is POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer compatible with all fuels and additives in India?

Yes, POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer is designed to be impervious to all fuels, including gasoline, diesel, and high-alcohol content fuels like E10, E15, and E85, as well as common fuel additives. This makes it highly reliable for modern and classic vehicles operating in India.

Does POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer prevent rust and corrosion?

Absolutely. POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer actively stops existing rust and prevents new corrosion from forming inside metal fuel tanks. Its non-porous barrier protects the metal from moisture and fuel contaminants, ensuring long-term tank health.

What is the shelf life of POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer after opening?

The shelf life for POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer after opening is typically 12 months, following the standard category default for sealants. Ensure the can is tightly sealed after use to maintain product integrity.

Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip It

It's perfect for restoration projects or preventative maintenance. Skip if your fuel tank is plastic or rubber, as this product is specifically designed for metal surfaces. Also, if you are looking for a quick-drying, spray-on solution for external tank repair, this internal liquid sealer is not the correct product. For those seeking robust, long-term protection against aggressive fuels, this is the definitive choice.

How to use

Prepare the Fuel Tank — Thoroughly clean the inside of the metal fuel tank. Remove all rust, scale, and old sealant. Degrease and ensure the tank is completely dry before proceeding. Proper preparation is critical for adhesion.
Apply the Sealer — Pour the entire 8 fl oz (237ml) can of POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer into the prepared tank. Rotate the tank to ensure all internal surfaces are completely coated. Drain any excess sealer back into the can.
Cure the Sealer — Allow the sealed tank to cure fully. This typically takes 24-72 hours, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. Avoid introducing fuel until the sealer is completely hardened and non-tacky.
