• Prepare Your Piece — Ensure your ceramic piece (greenware or bisque-fired) is clean and dry. For easier brush cleanup, dip your brush in soapy water or fabric softener before loading it with wax resist.
• Apply Wax Resist — Using a brush, apply the wax resist to the areas you wish to keep free of glaze or to create designs. This protects the clay surface from glaze absorption and defines negative space.
• Glaze or Underglaze — Once the wax resist is dry, apply your glazes or underglazes to the desired areas. The wax will prevent the glaze from adhering to the protected surfaces.
• Bisque Fire — Fire your piece in the kiln at bisque temperatures (approx. 500°C). The wax resist will burn off cleanly, revealing your designs and unglazed areas.
