What is the best grit of sanding sponge for polishing wood?

For polishing wood to a high gloss, use the finest grits in this set: 2500, 3000, and 3500. Start with lower grits like 1000-2000 for intermediate smoothing between coats of finish, and use 320-600 for initial shaping or repair work. The 2"x2" size allows for detailed application.

Can these sanding sponges be used for wet sanding?

Yes, these HDongany sanding sponges are designed for both wet and dry applications. Wet sanding can help reduce dust and prevent clogging of the abrasive surface, leading to a smoother finish, especially on delicate materials like acrylics and solid surfaces.

How do these sanding sponges compare to steel wool for finishing?

These sponges are designed as a cleaner, more controlled alternative to steel wool. They offer a consistent grit across the surface, are washable and reusable, and do not leave behind loose steel fibers that can rust or embed in finishes. The foam construction provides a comfortable grip for detailed work.

What surfaces can I use these sanding sponges on?

These sponges are versatile and work great on stabilized woods, acrylics, solid surface materials, plastics, stone, glass, and metal. The range of grits allows for everything from initial shaping and repair to achieving a high-gloss polish on various materials.

How to choose the right grit for my project?

For rough repairs or shaping, start with lower grits (320-600). For smoothing between finish coats or moderate polishing, use mid-range grits (1000-2000). For a high-gloss finish on wood, plastic, or metal, use the finest grits (2500-3500). Each grit has 3 pads for ample use.

Are these sanding sponges suitable for automotive paint correction?

Yes, the finer grits (2500-3500) in this set are suitable for light polishing and removing minor imperfections or orange peel on automotive clear coats after painting. For heavy defect removal, coarser abrasives might be needed, but these are excellent for final finishing stages.

Ideal for Woodworkers & Detailers, Skip if Sensitive to Fine Dust

Perfect for woodworkers, DIY enthusiasts, and automotive detailers working with stabilized woods, acrylics, solid surfaces, plastics, stone, and glass. If you require extremely coarse grit for heavy paint stripping or rust removal, these fine-grit sponges may not be aggressive enough. Individuals sensitive to fine dust particles should ensure adequate ventilation and consider wearing a respirator during use, as with any sanding operation.

How to use

Select the Appropriate Grit — Choose your grit based on the task: lower grits (320-600) for shaping/repair, mid-grits (1000-2000) for smoothing, and high grits (2500-3500) for polishing. Each grit has 3 pads available.
Prepare the Surface and Pad — For wet sanding, dampen the surface and the sponge pad with water or a suitable lubricant. For dry sanding, ensure the surface is clean and free of debris. The foam pad is comfortable to hold.
Sand with Light Pressure — Apply light, even pressure and sand in a consistent direction (e.g., with the grain on wood). Work through your chosen grit sequence, cleaning the pad and surface as needed between grits.
Clean and Reuse — After use, rinse the sanding sponge thoroughly under running water to remove dust and debris. Allow it to air dry completely before storing. This makes the pads washable and reusable for multiple projects.
