• Prepare Your Work Area — Ensure good ventilation by opening a window or using a fume extractor. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flux fumes and stray solder splashes. Have your soldering iron heated to the recommended 315-371°C (600-700°F).
• Tin the Soldering Iron Tip — Apply a small amount of Kester 44 solder wire to your heated soldering iron tip. This 'tinning' process cleans the tip and improves heat transfer, ensuring a better connection to the joint.
• Apply Solder to the Joint — Touch the heated, tinned soldering iron tip to the component lead and the PCB pad simultaneously. Feed the Kester 44 solder wire onto the heated joint, allowing it to flow smoothly and create a clean, shiny connection.
• Remove Solder and Iron — Once the solder has flowed and formed a good joint, remove the solder wire first, then the soldering iron. Allow the joint to cool naturally without disturbing it. The RMA flux residue is non-corrosive and non-conductive.
