• Select Your Wood — Choose a soft wood like basswood, pine, or poplar for easier carving. Ensure the wood is dry and free from knots where you plan to make your cuts. For intricate designs, select a piece with sufficient thickness.
• Grip and Carve Safely — Wear the included cut-resistant gloves. Hold the wood firmly in one hand and the appropriate knife (whittling, detail, or hook) in the other. Use controlled, short strokes, directing the blade away from your body and fingers.
• Shape and Refine — Use the whittling knife for general shaping, the detail knife for fine lines and features, and the hook knife for creating hollows like in spoons or bowls. Gradually remove wood to achieve your desired form.
• Sharpen and Maintain — After carving, use the leather strop with polishing compound to maintain the razor-sharp edge of your blades. Regularly stropping ensures precision and makes carving easier and safer. Store tools in the roll bag.
