How do I adjust the EMAD damping on my Evans bass drumhead?

The EMAD system allows easy adjustment by adding or removing felt rings. Simply attach or detach the rings around the internal damping pad to modify the attack and focus of your bass drum sound. This external adjustability lets you tailor the tone for different music genres without needing to muffle the drum internally.

What is the difference between a kick batter head and a resonant bass drumhead?

A batter bass drumhead, like the EMAD Heavyweight, is designed for the side struck by the beater, featuring durable plies and damping for impact. A resonant head is on the front, influencing tone and projection, often with a microphone port. This Evans head is a batter head.

How do I measure my bass drum to order the correct replacement head size?

Measure the outer diameter of your drum shell from edge to edge across the center, excluding the rim. This Evans head is 18 inches, designed for standard 18-inch bass drum shells to ensure a proper fit on the bearing edges.

Is this Evans drumhead suitable for Indian climate conditions?

Yes, Evans drumheads are made from durable synthetic film engineered to maintain stable tension and pitch across varying humidity and temperature conditions, making them reliable for use in India's climate.

Why choose this product

Engineered Tone Control for Indian Drummers

The Evans EMAD Heavyweight Clear Bass Drumhead offers precise sound shaping with its unique EMAD system. This allows drummers in India to achieve a focused attack and controlled sustain, crucial for live performances and studio recordings where precise tonal control is paramount. Unlike generic drumheads, the EMAD system provides external adjustability, letting you dial in the perfect kick drum sound for any musical context, from tight rock beats to resonant jazz tones, all while ensuring authentic USA engineering.

Ideal for Versatile Performers, Skip if You Need Simple Resonance

This drumhead is perfect for drummers who play multiple genres and need a versatile, adjustable sound. Its robust construction and EMAD system make it ideal for live gigs and studio sessions. However, if you are looking for a simple, resonant head with a single, unadulterated tone and minimal damping, or if your drum shell is not a standard 18-inch size, you might consider a different model. This head is designed for players who actively shape their sound.

How to use

Remove Old Drumhead — Carefully loosen the tension rods evenly around the drum hoop. Remove the old drumhead and inspect the drum's bearing edge for any damage or debris. Ensure the new head's collar sits evenly on the bearing edge.
Install New Drumhead — Place the 18-inch Evans EMAD Heavyweight head onto the drum shell. Re-insert the hoop and tension rods. Finger-tighten the tension rods evenly to seat the head, then use a drum key to gradually bring it up to pitch.
Adjust Damping (EMAD System) — To adjust attack and focus, add or remove the felt rings from the EMAD system. For more punch and less sustain, use the rings. For a more open, resonant tone, remove the rings. Experiment to find your desired sound.
