What is the difference between phosphor bronze and 80/20 bronze acoustic strings?

Phosphor bronze strings deliver a warmer, mellower tone and tend to hold their sound over time, while 80/20 bronze strings produce a brighter, crisper tone when freshly installed. The choice depends on the tonal character you prefer for your playing style. D'Addario Tapewound strings offer a distinct warm, deep tone with a smooth feel, different from both bronze types.

Which gauge should a beginner choose for bass guitar?

Beginners often start with extra-light or custom-light gauges because they require less finger pressure and are easier to fret. Medium gauges, like the D'Addario ETB92M's 50-105, offer more volume and sustain but need stronger fingers. These tapewounds are comfortable due to their smooth finish, making them a good option for beginners seeking a vintage tone.

Are D'Addario Tapewound Bass Strings ETB92M suitable for Indian weather conditions?

Yes, D'Addario's innovative packaging is designed to protect strings from contamination and corrosion, which is beneficial in India's humid climate. The polished nylon finish also resists corrosion better than uncoated strings, helping them maintain their tone and feel for longer periods.

What is the tone and feel of D'Addario Tapewound Bass Strings ETB92M?

These strings provide a warm, deep, vintage tone with an ultra-smooth polished nylon finish. Reviewers describe them as gentle on fingers, comfortable to play, and offering a classical bass sound. They reduce finger noise compared to roundwound strings.

Can D'Addario Tapewound Bass Strings ETB92M be used on fretted or fretless basses?

Yes, D'Addario Tapewound Bass Strings ETB92M are designed to be versatile and can be used effectively on both fretted and fretless basses, delivering a consistent vintage tone.

What is the expected lifespan of D'Addario Tapewound Bass Strings ETB92M?

While lifespan varies with playing frequency and style, D'Addario's corrosion-resistant packaging and polished nylon finish help extend string life. For typical use, expect them to last significantly longer than uncoated strings, with a category default shelf life after opening of 12 months.

Why choose this product

Authentic D'Addario Tone & Feel

D'Addario, a world leader in instrument strings, brings its reputation for unsurpassed quality to India. These ETB92M Tapewound strings are crafted with a unique flattened black nylon, polished for an ultra-smooth finish. This construction delivers a warm, deep, vintage tone and a comfortable feel that reduces finger noise. Unlike standard strings, tapewounds offer a distinct sonic character, bridging the gap between upright bass thump and flatwound depth. They are engineered for optimal tension and balance, ensuring dependable intonation and playability across various musical genres. Imported directly from authorized US retailers and partners, these strings guarantee genuine D'Addario performance.

Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip

Ideal for bassists seeking a warm, deep, vintage tone with a smooth feel, particularly those playing jazz, blues, rock, or folk. Excellent for players who experience finger discomfort with roundwound strings or want to reduce finger noise. Suitable for both fretted and fretless basses. Skip if you require a bright, cutting, modern tone, as tapewounds are inherently mellow. Players needing extreme tension for heavy down-tuning might find lighter gauges more suitable, though these medium scale strings offer balanced tension.

How to use

Remove Old Strings — Carefully detune and remove the old bass strings one by one. Clean the fretboard and bridge area before installing new strings.
Install New Strings — Thread the new D'Addario ETB92M strings through the bridge and anchor them. For medium scale, ensure proper length for tuning posts. Gently wind each string onto its respective tuning peg.
Tune and Stretch — Tune the strings to standard pitch (E-A-D-G for 4-string). Stretch each string gently by pulling it away from the fretboard and retuning. Repeat this process until tuning is stable.
Play and Adjust — Play the bass to settle the strings. Fine-tune as needed. The tapewound strings will gradually break in, settling into their optimal warm tone and feel.
