How many prongs should a matcha whisk have?

For everyday usucha (thin matcha) with a light froth, an 80–100 prong whisk works well and creates a smooth foam. Fewer prongs (around 16–48) are traditionally used for thicker koicha and hold up well to frequent whisking. This Artcome whisk's prong count is not specified but is designed for traditional preparation.

Do I need a whisk holder with my matcha whisk?

A holder is helpful because it keeps the bamboo prongs in their curved shape as they dry and supports even drying, which extends the whisk's usable life. This Artcome set includes a ceramic whisk holder, which is recommended for maintaining the whisk's integrity, especially in India's humid climate.

How to buy an original Artcome Matcha Tea Set in India?

Purchase this Artcome Matcha Tea Set from authorized US retailers and authorized brand partners via crowcrowcrow.com. It is imported per-order, factory-sealed, and all customs duties and GST are included in the listed INR price. Delivery is via ExpressBox tracked shipping.

Is this Artcome matcha set suitable for daily use in India?

Yes, the ceramic bowl and holder are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. However, the natural bamboo whisk and scoop require careful drying after each use, especially in humid Indian weather, to prevent mold and maintain prong shape. Store on the included holder in a dry, ventilated area.

What is the difference between usucha and koicha preparation?

Usucha is thin matcha, whisked to create a light, frothy layer, ideal for daily drinking. Koicha is thick matcha, whisked to a smooth, concentrated paste with less froth. This Artcome whisk is best suited for usucha; koicha may require a whisk with fewer, sturdier prongs.

Can I use this matcha whisk with other types of tea?

While designed specifically for matcha, the bamboo whisk can be used to mix other powdered beverages or supplements. However, its delicate prongs are best preserved for matcha preparation to avoid damage or splintering.

Why choose this product

Experience True Japanese Matcha Rituals

This Artcome set brings the authentic Japanese tea ceremony to your home. Unlike generic kitchen tools, each piece is crafted for specific matcha preparation. The natural bamboo whisk, with its finely split prongs, creates the perfect froth. The ceramic bowl is sized for traditional whisking, and the included holder preserves the whisk's shape. This isn't just about making tea; it's about embracing a centuries-old tradition. Imported directly, it ensures you receive the genuine article, unlike local imitations that may lack the specific design or material quality.

Ideal for Usucha, Consider Alternatives for Koicha

This set is perfectly suited for preparing usucha (thin matcha) with a light, airy froth thanks to the bamboo whisk's design. The 400ml bowl offers ample space for whisking. However, if you primarily prepare koicha (thick matcha), which requires a denser, less frothy consistency and often a whisk with fewer, sturdier prongs, you might find this whisk less ideal. For those sensitive to bamboo's natural scent or prone to mold in high humidity, consider a synthetic whisk or ensure rigorous drying protocols.

How to use

Prepare Matcha Powder — Sift 1-2 scoops (using the traditional scoop) of matcha powder into the ceramic bowl. Ensure powder is fine and free of clumps for best whisking results.
Add Warm Water — Pour approximately 60-80 ml (2-3 fl oz) of warm, not boiling, water into the bowl with the matcha powder. Water temperature around 70-80°C (160-175°F) is ideal.
Whisk for Froth — Using the bamboo whisk, vigorously whisk the mixture in a rapid 'W' or 'M' motion for about 15-30 seconds until a fine, even froth covers the surface.
Clean and Dry — Rinse the whisk and scoop immediately with warm water. Place the whisk on its ceramic holder to air dry completely, especially important in India's humid climate.
