Achieve Rich, Smooth Bass Tones
D'Addario XL Chromes Flatwound Bass Strings ECB81-5 (45-132 gauge) are designed for 5-string basses, delivering a warm, mellow tone with an ultra-smooth feel. The polished stainless steel flattened ribbon wrap wire over a high-carbon steel Hex-Core ensures reduced finger noise, consistent intonation, and reliable durability. These strings are a popular choice for Jazz, R&B, and Pop musicians seeking a distinctive, rich low end and a sound that blends beautifully into the mix. Imported for Indian musicians, they offer a premium feel and tone.
These flatwound strings provide a dark, yet warm tone, with a precisely polished surface for unparalleled smoothness. Unlike roundwounds, the flat surface minimizes fret noise, allowing for cleaner playing. The ECB81-5 set includes a .132 low B string, extending the tonal range for deeper bass lines. They are suitable for long scale basses up to 36 1/4 inches, providing a comfortable playing experience and a rich sonic profile that stands out in any musical ensemble.
For bassists in India seeking authentic USA-made strings, D'Addario XL Chromes offer superior quality and performance. All customs duties and GST are included in the listed price, with delivery via ExpressBox tracked shipping. Experience the D'Addario difference for your 5-string bass.
The D'Addario Chromes Advantage
D'Addario XL Chromes are the world's most popular flatwound strings, renowned for their distinctive damped, tone-rich sound. Expertly wound with flattened stainless steel ribbon wire and polished to an incredibly smooth surface, they minimize fret noise and offer a warm, mellow tone that blends beautifully. Unlike generic alternatives, D'Addario's proprietary Hex-Core ensures consistent intonation and durability, making them a trusted choice for discerning musicians. Imported directly from authorized US retailers, these strings offer unparalleled quality and performance for your 5-string bass.
Who It's For vs. Who Should Skip
Ideal for bassists playing Jazz, R&B, Funk, Pop, or any genre requiring a smooth, warm, and mellow tone with minimal finger noise. Perfect for players seeking a rich low end and a polished feel. Skip if you prefer a bright, cutting, or aggressive tone, as these flatwounds are designed for warmth and smoothness. Not recommended for players seeking the sustain and attack of roundwound strings or those with extremely heavy playing styles that might require a more robust, uncoated string.
