How to Select the Right Wax Type for Hair Removal
Waxing is the best way to remove unwanted hair on your body and moreover, it is a simple and quick process. However, waxing can turn into a terrible experience if you choose the wrong type of wax. Which is the ideal wax for sensitive skin? Which kind of wax is recommended for the bikini region? We have created a comprehensive guide that will answer these questions and provide a better understanding about the different types of waxes available for hair removal.

Soft Wax

Generally used in salons, soft wax is either resin/honey or cream based. This type of wax is mildly heated and then a thin coating is applied over the area to be waxed with the help of a wooden stick. The next step is to put a cloth strip on that area and pull it off in order to remove the hair. Soft wax is preferred for removing hair from larger parts of the body such as arms and legs. Select a heater which lets you adjust the temperature so that the wax remains at a stable temperature and doesn’t turn extremely hot or very cold.

Removing hair with this type of wax results in smooth skin as it sticks to the skin and gets rid of the tiniest hair strands. However, one must be careful and apply soft wax only once on a specific area in a single session. Using the wax several times on the same region can damage the skin. If you have sensitive skin, you should avoid using resin or honey based waxes since they can cause skin irritation. Beauty experts suggest cream-based soft waxes which are milder.

Cold Soft Wax

Contrary to soft wax which must be heated, this type of wax is taken from the bowl and applied immediately on the skin. Cold soft wax is preferred by many women since it reduces the chances of burning your skin which may occur due to hot wax. Even though this type of waxing is suitable as one does not have to be afraid of the wax being too cold, there are some problems which arise while using cold soft wax.

It is firmer as compared to other types of waxes; hence it can be difficult to apply a thin, uniform layer on your body. As a result, several ladies feel using cold soft wax for hair removal is painful and it is not as effectual as wax which is heated. Also, some tiny, fine hairs are still present on the skin after the waxing process is complete.

Sugar Wax

Formulated with natural ingredients which include sugar, hot water, and lemon, sugar wax is being used by ladies since ages because it is very mild on the skin making it a perfect choice for those with sensitive skin. Sugar wax grabs hair without binding to the skin, so it can be easily used several times on the same area without resulting in any skin damage.

You can apply sugar wax on your body with strips. As it is easy to spread sugar wax, you can use it on any part of the body. This type of wax is useful in getting rid of fine or medium hair. Keep in mind that your hair should be at least 1/4 inch long so that the gel can stick properly to the hair and remove it efficiently. Since sugar wax is water-soluble; you can wash it off with only plain water.

Hard Wax

hard wax

Easy to use, hard wax does not involve use of any strips. Once it cools, the wax becomes firm and turns into a strip. This type of wax is normally used to remove coarse hair from sensitive body parts such as underarms, chin, upper lip and bikini region. After the skin is cleaned, a little quantity of pre- epilation oil is usually applied prior to waxing.

Hard wax is slightly heated before it is used. A thicker layer of hard wax as compared to soft wax must be applied. Make sure that you spread the wax in the direction of the hair growth. After it cools, the wax will harden; you must pull the wax strip which is formed in the opposite course of hair growth. If you pull the strip from the wrong direction, it can lead to ingrown hair. Hair should be minimum ¼ inch long so that it can be removed completely. Hard wax does not stick to the skin, only to the hair, hence removing hair is not too painful.

Fruit Wax

If you have sensitive skin, then fruit wax is the best wax for hair removal as it is not harsh on the skin. This type of wax has to be used just like hard wax, which means you don’t need epilating strips. Fruit wax is rich in fruit extracts such as plums, cranberry, pomegranate, and blueberries etc. which are powerful anti-oxidants. Moreover, the vitamins present in fruit wax provide nourishment to the skin.

Using this type of wax won’t result in skin irritation or unwanted marks. These benefits make fruit wax a costlier option than regular honey-based waxes. However, it is preferred by several women because it not only helps to remove hair in a gentle manner, but it also contains vitamins which keep the skin healthy.
Chocolate Wax

Chocolate wax has become quite popular in the last few years owing to its anti-inflammatory properties and the wonderful spa-like experience it provides. Similar to fruit wax, it is less painful and packed with anti-oxidants. This type of wax also consists of other gentle and beneficial constituents such as glycerine, soybean oil, and almond oil.

The unique chocolate formulation replenishes lost moisture and nourishes the skin. The delicious chocolate scent reduces anxiety and makes the entire process very pleasurable. Designed to suit any skin type, chocolate wax is considered as the best wax for hair removal by beauty experts. Since it is anti-inflammatory, it is excellent for those who experience skin redness as it aids to reduce the inflammation. Chocolate wax is generally offered in soft form and it is heated slightly before use. This type of wax softens easily at a low temperature; hence there are fewer chances of skin burns.

Ready-to-use Wax Strips
Suggested for those who are new to waxing, ready-to-use or pre-waxed strips are simple to use and completely mess-free. If you are in a rush and don’t have the time to go through the entire procedure of heating the wax, applying it, and then removing hair with the help of strips, pre-waxed strips is the perfect option for you. The strips already have the correct quantity of cold wax attached to them. You don’t have to bother applying too much wax and since it is cold, the possibility of burning your skin is nil.

If you are unable to get rid of all the hair in the first attempt while using the pre wax strips, don’t worry; you can use another strip on the same spot without being concerned about causing severe skin inflammation.

For best results, it is recommended that the ready-to-use wax strips be rubbed between the palms to warm them up slightly so that they stick properly on the area to be waxed.
